Latency & jitter test
Measures how long small requests take to travel from your browser to this site's server and back, and how much that time jumps around. Useful for checking whether your connection is steady enough for calls and online games.
Uses 21 tiny requests (about 10 KB in total).
What exactly is measured
- Round-trip time: the time for one small HTTPS request to reach the nearest server of the network that hosts this site (Netlify) and return. The first request sets up the connection and is not counted.
- Median and average: the median ignores a few slow outliers, so it's the best single number.
- Jitter: the average change between one sample and the next. Different tools calculate jitter differently, so compare numbers only within the same tool.
- Failed requests: requests that errored or took longer than 4 seconds.
What it is not
This is not an ICMP ping — browsers can't send those. It's also not the latency to your game server or call service, which may be in another country. And it's not packet loss: a failed HTTP request can have other causes. For download and upload speed, use the internet speed test.
How to read the result
- Below about 60 ms with low jitter: fine for calls and most games.
- 60–150 ms: usable; you may notice delay in fast games.
- Above 150 ms or big jumps: calls can stutter. Move closer to the router, use a cable, and pause large downloads or cloud backups.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my game's ping different?
Your game measures the distance to its own server, which can be much farther away than the nearby server this test reaches.
Does this use much data?
No — about 10 KB per run, so it is safe on mobile data.
